Eclectic Vibes: Danity Kane Without Aubrey Is Like Puff Without Mase
I didn’t pay too much attention when I heard that Diddy kicked Aubrey O’Day and D. Woods out of Danity Kane. For one, I didn’t really care. And two, Aubrey was already successful outside of the group and I know from living in Atlanta that D. Woods had another girl group she performed with. People she actually liked. So I didn’t think it mattered. Those two would go on as would the group–somehow.
But I’ve given it some thought after reading a couple of negative articles on MTV.com about the situation. The articles were making it seem like Aubrey is the one with the problem. I think if anything the decision Diddy made was stupid. Aubrey and to a lesser extent D. Woods made Danity Kane.
The reason Danity Kane have been so successfull thus far, is because Aubrey and D. Woods. Taking them out of the equation is the equivalent to taking Beyonce out of Destiny’s Child or Omarion out of B2K, it just isn’t interesting anymore. Who really wants to hear Michelle and Kelly? The reason we tolerated their parts on songs were to get to Beyonce’s.
I don’t think people need to worry about the ex-bandmates careers. Particularly Aubrey. Wasn’t she just on the cover of Complex Magazine? Alone? Aubrey will continue to be successful because she has personality. And frankly the other girls don’t. Vocally, the group is still strong, very strong. But the rest of the girls, particularly Dawn are about as interesting as watching paint dry. Yeah, it’s happening. But do I want to watch? Uh, no.
Aubrey O’Day will do more Broadway. Aubrey O’Day will do movies. Aubrey O’Day will be a solo artist. Aubrey O’Day will do whatever she wants to do and be successful in whatever she does. If she was accepted in to law school, she’d be a damn good lawyer. Aubrey O’Day has mana. Aubrey O’Day has that “it” factor. The rest of Danity Kane, just have good voices. And that alone doesn’t get you that far, look at Jennifer Hudson.
